It is as important for us to be sharp and tuned in emotionally as it is to be intellectually capable. One of the ways to make sure that we are tending to our emotional intelligence is to give ourselves a moment to process our emotions when they come pouring in. This is one of the most important things to remember in that effort
Don’t Ever Cry Over Anything That Cannot Cry Over You
There are very limited exceptions, of course: If you happen to be a pregnant woman you are allowed to burst into tears when you pull through your favorite McDonald’s drive-thru and hear those awful words “I’m sorry ma’am, our shake machine is down.” Other than that, being moved to tears over inanimate objects or transient circumstances is a no-go. Upon further consideration you will surely remember all of the people in your life who are worthy of your tears. And then you are very likely to pull yourself together, chill out, and move forward.
