In sharing these “quickies” with our visitors I have been in a reflective mode lately. I’ve felt compelled to share a few personal insights hoping that they will be as helpful to others as they have been for me. While talking with my youngest son I recently had a lightening bolt of truth hit me right between the eyes, straight through my heart and explode into my soul all at once. In one shot I got a message as poignant as it was simple. After four and a half decades of living, I JUST got the simple message that one of the most powerful keys to happiness and peace is simply to
DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU ARE GOING TO DO- PERIOD.
This crosses all lines, both personal and professional and is not conditioned upon any outside force or circumstance. If you just do what you say you are going to do– either for yourself or for others, you will be much happier than if you adopt any alternate communication pattern. And it is okay not to have something to say about everything all the time. Better to say that you do not know, than to say that you are going to do something and not do it. I offered him this illustration for perspective:
Treat Your Word Like It’s Solid Gold & It Will Become Solid Gold- Guaranteed.
I realized that if I were going to have to give my son simple and memorable parting advice for a gratifying life, this would be it. My hope is that he takes that advice- and that you do too. Godspeed.
