When I was a kid in school, they taught me that the Golden Rule was to
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
But when I grew up, I learned what I call the Platinum Rule and it goes like this
“Do unto others as they have asked you to do unto them“
Translation: Give people the treatment they are asking you for rather than what you would want if you were them. When people tell you what they want or need from you, hear them and heed them. You both will be better off.
